Housing Development in Mataró
The desire to obtain a particular urban reading led us to design a project composed of various interventions. The aim was to create a pedestrian walkway in the interior of a large block in Mataró’s old town as the first stage towards generating a civic axis that would connect this area to the sea front.
When drawing up the plans, we felt it would be appropriate to design a powerful element that would act as a backbone for restructuring the area. Since we were also establishing a private housing development combined with local government action to provide protected rent housing at this time, we found ourselves working with very different construction types whilst seeking to ensure that their exteriors formed a unitary whole.
The garage occupies the basement under the entire space, and is shared by the two developments, minimising the space occupied by ramps and improving urban quality in the street.
