Protected housing at the Marina del Prat Vermell, Barcelona
The main premise of our proposal is to ensure that almost all residential units of the complex have direct sunlight on any given day of the year. Given the characteristics of the urban planning of the site, which defines a continuous building crown in the shape of a closed block, with the possibility of building a wing in the interior of the city block, we understand that the best way to achieve this goal is to build on three fundamental typological characteristics:
– define volumes with the lowest possible depth to release the interior of the city block and facilitate the cross ventilation and double orientation of the housing units;
– distribute the units in two dwellings per landing to obtain that all of them have a double and optimal orientation, increasing the number of units per landing at the corners;
– lower the height of the volumes on the southern front to allow an adequate insolation of the blocks in the background.
